What happened on 6 November
Prices fell below zero in 5 markets on 6 November: South Australia for 9 h 50 minD, Victoria for 9 h 15 minD, Tasmania for 8 h 00 minD, Queensland for 7 h 40 minD and New South Wales for 1 h 35 minD. The longest unbroken run was in South Australia, 3 h 30 minD from 14:25–17:55 ACDT; the lowest price there during the day was −A$320D/MWh. All of it fell in local daytime, the hours when solar output in the NEM is available. This site does not publish a generation mix for the NEM regions, so the solar and wind share in those intervals is not shown. Denmark DK2 spiked to DKK 2,948/MWhD (about 440D USD/MWh) in the hour from 17:00 CET, above our fixed threshold of 300 USD/MWh.
Denmark had the cleanest mix of the grids we meter, 40.9D % renewable over the day, with wind at 26.4D % and solar at 14.5D %. Great Britain followed at 20.1D % renewable with wind 8.4D % (transmission-metered; solar on local networks is not in this data). Taiwan followed at 18.7D % renewable with wind 10.5D % and solar 7.0D %. Across the 8D markets with a full day of metered demand, 2,058,279D MWh was used, Great Britain the largest at 38.5D % of it.
Time below zero across all markets added up to 36 h 20 minD, more than the 29 h 30 minD on 5 November. Against 5 November, demand moved most in Tasmania (+4.3D %) and Queensland (−7.8D %). Denmark's renewable share rose by 4.1D points, from 36.8D %. Great Britain's renewable share fell by 16.5D points, from 36.6D %. Taiwan's renewable share rose by 7.3D points, from 11.4D %. The cheapest hour anywhere cost about −217D USD/MWh, against −132D on 5 November.
How to read this. The 6 November recap covers 15D markets (8D with a full day of demand) and was frozen at 00:30 UTC on 7 November; later operator revisions are not applied. A D badge marks a number we calculated from the operators' metered data, an M badge one published as is. Durations add up priced intervals below zero, clock times are each market's local time, and shares are energy-weighted over the day. Definitions and limits are in the methodology.
ⓘ How this recap is made
Built once after the UTC day ended, then frozen. Electricity used is the metered demand of each market added up over the day (Great Britain: transmission generation); only markets with at least 95 % metered coverage of the day are added up. Hours are UTC hours priced as the mean of the source periods. Below zero is the sum of priced intervals under zero. Nothing is estimated or filled in.
