Privacy Policy

SolarCostData.com is an independent, data-driven reference site. This page describes what information is collected when you use it, who collects it, and the choices you have. The short version: the calculators run entirely in your browser and never send us your numbers; what data collection exists comes from ordinary server logs and third-party advertising.
What we do not collect
- Calculator inputs. Every calculator on this site computes in your browser. The figures you type — your electric bill, your rates, your system size — are never transmitted to us, stored by us, or visible to us. A shareable result link encodes your inputs in the URL on your own screen; nothing is sent until you choose to share that link, and we never see it either way.
- Accounts or sign-ups. There are none. No email walls, no registration, no newsletters.
- Contact-form submissions. There is no form; contact is by email only, and emails you send are used solely to reply to you.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our web server and its content delivery network (Cloudflare) record standard technical logs: IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, referrer and timestamp. These are used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic statistics, and are not joined to any identity — we would have no identity to join them to.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-RNBDSFBKNH) to understand aggregate usage — which pages are read, which calculators are used, and roughly where visitors come from. What GA4 receives: page URLs, approximate location derived from a truncated IP (Google anonymizes IP data in GA4 by design and does not log or store full IP addresses), device and browser type, and two calculator events we defined: calculate (which tool was used and, where a state was picked from the preset list, which state) and share_result (which tool’s copy-link button was clicked). What GA4 never receives from this site: any number you type. Your bill amount, rates, system size and every other input stay in your browser, exactly as described above — the events carry only the tool’s name.
You can opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with Google’s browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout . Blocking JavaScript or using a content blocker also prevents measurement, and every calculator still works.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site is monetized with Google AdSense. Google and its certified ad partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick / Google Ads cookies) enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings . You can opt out of many third-party vendors’ cookies at www.aboutads.info/choices .
- Google’s own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites .
We do not run our own tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or cross-site identifiers.
Your choices
- Personalized ads: opt out at the Google Ads Settings link above.
- Cookies generally: every modern browser lets you block or clear cookies; the site works fully without them (a cookie-free visit simply gets non-personalized ads).
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell personal information ourselves. To the extent third-party advertising cookies constitute a “sale” or “sharing” under California law, you can exercise your opt-out through the ad-industry link above (aboutads.info/choices ) and the Google Ads Settings page. You may also contact us at the address on the contact page with any privacy request, and we will act on it.
Children
This site is a financial-reference tool for households and is not directed at children under 13. We knowingly collect no information from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it. Material changes will be noted on this page.
