Everything here is an estimate, not advice
- Not tax advice. Pages on this site describe federal and state tax rules — including the expiration of the federal residential clean energy credit — in plain English, with citations to primary sources. That is general information about the law, not advice about your situation. Tax outcomes depend on facts we cannot see: your liability, your filing position, the exact dates of your project. Confirm anything that affects a tax return with a licensed tax professional before acting.
- Not financial, legal or engineering advice. Payback periods, running costs, savings figures and sizing outputs are modeled estimates built from public data (EIA, EPA, NEEP, DSIRE and others, credited on each page) and stated assumptions. They exist to help you sanity-check quotes and bills, not to replace them.
- Not a quote. No figure on this site is an offer, a quoted price, or a guarantee of savings. Real prices come from real installers and real utility tariffs, and both vary.
Accuracy, and its limits
We work hard on accuracy — figures trace to named public sources, pages carry the date their data was last verified, and every calculator shows its formula. But energy prices, tariffs, incentive budgets and tax rules change continuously, sometimes mid-year. Content is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, and we do not warrant that any page is current at the moment you read it. The “data updated” date on each page tells you when its inputs were last verified.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SolarCostData and its operator are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on this site’s content — including decisions to purchase, finance, lease or forgo energy equipment. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the site is to stop using it.
Permitted use
You may read, link to, quote with attribution, and share result links freely. You may not scrape the site wholesale for republication, misrepresent our figures as your own, or present modified versions of our pages as ours.
Third-party links
Pages link to primary sources (IRS, EIA, DSIRE, utility and state programs). Those sites have their own terms and we are not responsible for their content.
Advertising
The site is supported by advertising, served by Google AdSense. Ads are labeled as such. How advertising cookies work, and how to opt out, is covered in the privacy policy .
