What happened on 4 November
5 markets spent time below zero on 4 November: South Australia for 10 h 40 minD, Queensland for 7 h 40 minD, Victoria for 7 h 15 minD, New South Wales for 35 minD and Tasmania for 15 minD. The longest unbroken run was in South Australia, 4 h 40 minD from 14:30–19:10 ACDT; the lowest price there during the day was −A$259D/MWh. The run spanned both daytime and evening hours local time. This site does not publish a generation mix for the NEM regions, so the solar and wind share in those intervals is not shown. Denmark DK2 spiked to DKK 2,763/MWhD (about 417D USD/MWh) in the hour from 18:00 CET, above our fixed threshold of 300 USD/MWh.
Great Britain had the cleanest mix of the grids we meter, 38.0D % renewable over the day, with wind at 26.7D %. Denmark followed at 33.0D % renewable with wind 10.1D % and solar 22.8D %. Taiwan followed at 9.8D % renewable with wind 1.2D % and solar 7.3D %. Across the 8D markets with a full day of metered demand, 2,139,152D MWh was used, Great Britain the largest at 37.0D % of it.
Time below zero across all markets added up to 26 h 25 minD, more than the 18 h 35 minD on 3 November. New South Wales went below zero after staying positive the day before. The biggest day-on-day moves in electricity used were Victoria at +11.4D % and New South Wales at −7.7D %. Denmark's renewable share fell by 15.2D points, from 48.2D %. Taiwan's renewable share fell by 7.5D points, from 17.3D %. The cheapest hour anywhere cost about −110D USD/MWh, against −30D on 3 November.
How to read this. The 4 November recap covers 15D markets (8D with a full day of demand) and was frozen at 00:30 UTC on 5 November; later operator revisions are not applied. A D badge marks a number we calculated from the operators' metered data, an M badge one published as is. Durations add up priced intervals below zero, clock times are each market's local time, and shares are energy-weighted over the day. Definitions and limits are in the methodology.
ⓘ How this recap is made
Built once after the UTC day ended, then frozen. Electricity used is the metered demand of each market added up over the day (Great Britain: transmission generation); only markets with at least 95 % metered coverage of the day are added up. Hours are UTC hours priced as the mean of the source periods. Below zero is the sum of priced intervals under zero. Nothing is estimated or filled in.
